I think that's where the local head of Environmntal Health and Public Protection may have got his.

Earlier this year he attempted to tell us that it was "illegal" for Hackney Carriages to pick up and drop of outside of the District boundaries - even with a booking, and even though the nearest boundary is less than a mile from our taxi rank.

He was bullshitting because otherwise he wouldn't have used the word "illegal." He would have stated that picking up and dropping off outside of the District boundaries contravened article "x" of the Local Government Act (Miscellaneous Provisions) 1976 and quoted from it.

There is no such article within this legislation. What a wanker!

Can't say it would amount to libel...

He did cite airport runs from as near as 1 mile from at least two of the three taxi ranks in the District, and I suspect he at least "lent an ear" to the companies who specialise in airport transfers and hold either Private Hire or PSV licences rather than Hackney Carriage licences.

When questioned by me via an anonymous letter that I passed to a friendly member of the Council Committee to which he is accountable, he just gave the stock "Concentration Camp Guard's" response of:

I don't make the law I only enforce it.

A few days later the Enforcement Officer who reports to him came to our office and said that he would take no action against drivers or firms for fares being undertaken outside of the District if a passenger had made a booking prior to the commencement of the journey. We received no such pledge in writing though.
