Mrs Mick has desires on a Porshe 911

Chaps

Both Mrs Mick and I run Honda Civics. Hers is a recent purchase whereas mine is now 6 years old.

I was planning on selling mine and keeping hers and also buying a sportier model for her everyday use.

We had a visit from Merlin of PFM fame last week and he turned up in a nifty little Porsche 911. She was quite impressed by it and is dropping hints that she would soon like one for herself. I prefer a Jaguar XK8 but this car is a 35th wedding aniversary present and she wants the Porsche.

I am not mad enough to buy brand new because of the rapid depreciation on price but I have heard that once a car hits 2 or 3 years, the depreciation tails off rapidly.

So is this true and does anyone know the state of the market. Is difficult to sell them (please say it is ) or do they get snapped up fairly soon.

Also is there anything gruesome about them etc that I should know.

Regards

Mick

I'm only guessing by the blurred badge and not the car. Winker
I have'nt a clue what it is, so if you could enlighten us as to, what car?

The boot handle looks good.

Polarbear,
The Nissan z 350 is a cracking car mate. Quality!!
I do prefer a Porsche 911 though. I own a 911 carrera 2 s tip, and it rocks man.
Mick,
Mrs Mick would love the 911, and she would also like the fact she could get more thar 1 of her girlfriends in it. This is one of the pluses over the boxter.Which by the way is fantastic, but everyone who has one wants the 911, thats fact!!!
Anyway Mick, the advice you have been given is excellent mate. Full porsche service history and reputable dealer is the key. This is what holds the price, along with continuing to use porsche dealer for servicing. Porsche has standard service pricing for cars upto 8 years old.
Anyway good luck with the search mate.

Sure both cars are extremey good Billy. My point with the Nissan is that it can be had for less than £30k brand new.

Sure the 911 is ultimately a better car but sufficiently better on todays roads that you would notice the difference and for the price difference?

PB,
Good point mate, your 100% correct.

For £30k, you will get a very nice clean Porsche 911, say 1999-2000, with say 40thousand miles. so 6-7 yrs old.
In 1 year that porsche will not have lost any money, but the nissan will have.
So the porsche will be worth more than the nissan. Ok granted much older, but what's age at this level?
Regards,
Billy

Many congrats PB

Very sporty looking & hopefully plenty of the Nissan reliability built in rather than the French link. You should have several years fun & trouble free motoring, other than from pc plod who may take a shine to it for rather different motives!

I'll not hold my breath waiting for a stereo review!!

I gather that the 993 holds its price very well due to a cult following.

Is it a nice car for Mrs Mick to drive. I know it is air cooled and I was wondering if it is as smooth as a modern one.

She had a run in a Cayenne the other day and was suitably impressed.

The spec was

Displacement: 4,500 cc
Power Output: 450 bhp
Drivetrain: 4-WD
Transmission: Automatic
Colour: Titanium Metallic
Colour (interior): Full leather in Black, smooth-finish
Mileage: 28,249 m
Registration Year: 03/04

Mick,

The Cayenne is a well engineered machine, but surely much too big for Mrs Mick - try manoeuvring that through Waitrose carpark on a saturday morning. If you are going into that type of machine rather than the original thought of a Porsche 911 or similar, then have a look at an Audi RS4 estate...

Anyway, review of the cayenne here....

Jo

PS, if you do get one, please don't turn up to our shoot in it......

Mick,
From a financial point of view, I believe that the 993's values will be fairly steady for the next few years.
As more 997 (current generation of the 911) appear on the 2nd hand market, it will have a negative impact on the 996 (previous gen.911), which you & mrs mick may find preferable, as it is smoother & cheaper to run. The 993 is indeed a classic, which may officionado's prefer, but even the youngest one is getting on for 10 years old now. Not necessarily something to be scared of, just something to be aware of.
The Cayenne, I believe will continue to devalue for another couple of years before it plateaus. I'm not sure where the 4mpg thing comes from, sounds a bit pessimistic, but to be fair, mid-teens mpg is a bit heavy for my blood.
Pedant point #2 :
The planet will be fine, its just our ability to live on it that MAY be screwed.
But with millions of cars in the USA doing less mpg than the Cayenne, one more 4x4 pottering around Swindon probably won't be the final nail in the coffin.
Yes, I know thats not the atitude.
Matt.

A friend of mine has a very desirable late 996 C4S with all the goodies. The C4S is quite often referred to as the best everyday version of the 996. In fact it's so desirable that whilst he was on holiday, somebody broke into his house to try and steal the keys for it. Luckily the keys for it were with him on holiday.
Needless to say, with a wife and baby, he's decided ot get rid of it to avoid any further unwanted nightime attention.
Tea leaf attention is not something everyone is prepared for when buying nice motors......

I absolutely couldn't agree more. I think the Brera is the most beautiful and desirable car you can buy currently.

I also think they look a bit like my Scirocco...

Anna

I own an Alfa Romeo 145 and love every minute of driving it after nearly a year of owning it. I went to the launch of the Brera in Christchurch and definitely aspire to owning one.

I just need to convince the dealer that sold me my (1997) 145 that I need a test drive of the Brera...

...And the Britons went unto Mick Parry and saeth unto him:

O great Mick, we desireth consumer goods with shiny hues and many colors, show us unto the way of man.

And when he hath finished his sup and did much belch, he went unto the place whereth his Porsh did sit and said:

"Chaps, there is no God in heaven, but only the goods one buyeth with ones cash."

And the Britons were amazed, they were quite cynical with knowledge and did beleive him.

And the Lord sayth unto them:

"Art thou blind, for Mick is filled with wrath and his woman will not lay down with him. For unto the wicked go the treasures of the world, and unto the righteuos go the Kingdom of Heaven"

And so the Britons laughed at the Lord:

"Lord, hast thou never driven a 911, or eveneth a C4S. If thou didst, thou wouldst see."

And the Lord was very angry:

"Canst thou not see, the Italians hath not a good car made in many moon, anyway thou art daft to buyeth a 911, for they costeth too much and are a pain to fix."

And again the People were amazed.

Amen

Here endeth the First Lesson.

Too right, people that buy these should be taxed 2k a year. full stop.

We dont own this planet, we are visitors.

Big Brother

I take it you are not too keen on Porsche's.

Rightwing

You create more pollution flying to Spain than what you will ever do driving a car.

I believe that one return flight to Spain emitts as much carbon as the average motorist pumps out in 200 years. That BTW is comparing each passenger and not the complete aircraft.
