Mrs Mick has desires on a Porshe 911

Chaps
Both Mrs Mick and I run Honda Civics. Hers is a recent purchase whereas mine is now 6 years old.
I was planning on selling mine and keeping hers and also buying a sportier model for her everyday use.
We had a visit from Merlin of PFM fame last week and he turned up in a nifty little Porsche 911. She was quite impressed by it and is dropping hints that she would soon like one for herself. I prefer a Jaguar XK8 but this car is a 35th wedding aniversary present and she wants the Porsche.
I am not mad enough to buy brand new because of the rapid depreciation on price but I have heard that once a car hits 2 or 3 years, the depreciation tails off rapidly.
So is this true and does anyone know the state of the market. Is difficult to sell them (please say it is ) or do they get snapped up fairly soon.
Also is there anything gruesome about them etc that I should know.
Regards
Mick

Too right, people that buy these should be taxed 2k a year. full stop.
Quite right. I think anyone who owns anything bigger/better than me should be taxed more. Oh sh*t they are already.
Bigger car, bigger house, longer haul flights, bigger hi-fi - they all consume more resources and produce more waste. Nobody should have any of these.
After all none of these things are "necessary" are they?
What sanctimonious bollocks.

what more environmentally friendly ways are there currently available for travelling to Spain - swimming?

Yes people need to travel to Spain and if nothing else, it developments the tourist industry which creates jobs etc.
The answer is not to tax everything but to develope cleaner fuels. That way we could all drive a Porsche and fly to Spain every weekend without doing any harm.

Mick,
Your Honda's a good car too, got one meself. Good thing about it, is that it will get you from point A to B in relative comfort without breaking down. Then there is the money issue.
The Honda is your Gerrard 401, plays records no fuss no muss. Porshe 911 is an LP12. I think we already know your opinions on that. Anyway, with the prices of used vinyl, and a good deck like the 401, you'll need the cash to save for good records.

Porsche is like Naim, it is pricey to buy but retains the value and tends to be reliable.
I am not buying for myself, I am buying Mrs Mick a wedding aniversary present for tolerating 35 years of putting up with me.
I can buy a 3 year old model and probably lose very little when it comes to resell time.
So in effect it becomes cheap motoring.
Also, although her Honda is good, it is a bit bland.

Mick,
Well, good luck to Mrs. Mick then. No doubt she deserves the 911. Sure beats a mink coat, huh.

I believe that one return flight to Spain emitts as much carbon as the average motorist pumps out in 200 years. That BTW is comparing each passenger and not the complete aircraft.
Mick,
according to
HowStuffWorks a full-ish Boing 747 achieves about 100 miles per gallon per passenger.
Basically, you'd use much more fuel driving there (even two up) than flying. (Not very practical for an Atlantic crossing, admittedly).

Aircraft fuel is filthy compared to modern more cleaner car fuels. Air travel is a real bad boy in carbon emissions.
This is why the environmentalist are now turning their guns on Easyjet and other carriers who are promoting cheap travel.
Richard Branson wants to fund research into developing cleaner aircraft fuels for this very reason.

Here's my 10-year-old son's review of my friend's new 911 4S. A hearty endorsement indeed!
Enjoy.

When I was 10 my dad had a car with the engine in the back and the trunk in the front. I assure you, it was NOT concidered cool!

I should let him post for me. He probably makes a more convincing argument than I do!

This week, my father bought his new, old car:
Ohhhh.

(It´s a 1996 turbo r).

I read a review of the new Porsche Turbo which said it had a pathetically small petrol tank - something like 50 litres. (My little 1600cc Alfa has a 50 litre tank!)
