2001 A Forum Oddity
Posted by: Alex S. on 02 August 2002
I was going to make my 2000th post some magnum opus of grandiose verbosity but I have died under the weight of expectation and have posters block.
Instead I advised Gary to 'get some Mana'. As Nick suggests that's one of my most boring posts ever but also one of the most constructive. Since mine arrived I have cried three times. OK, once was when I spiked my foot with the 4 tier rack but the other two were because the music pervading the room was so beautiful. The slow movement of Shostakovich's Piano Conc No2 and a tune off Yellow Hedgerow Dreamscape by Porcupine Tree both had me all dewy eyed. Anyway, that is the all I'll say about Mana for a while, maybe, just maybe, enough has been said about it recently by much greater members than me.
I joined this Forum because I needed to know the answer to a vital question which had troubled me for 2 decades: what guage of hack saw blade is best for sawing through the locking rings on a SNAIC? I gained a lot more than I bargained for. I gained a forum habit more difficult to kick than Crack. I also gained some invaluable knowledge about equipment, mains, fuses, above all about music.
But most of all I gained some friends. So, thanks to all those I've met: James, Paul, Jonathan, David, Andy, Jason, Dev, Nick, (Pog & Fox from yonder), and thanks to those I consider friends but haven't met: Herm, Derek, DHM, Matthew, Mark, no Luke but various Johns, Gary, Andrew, Goose, Roy, Mr Tibbs, Steveandkate, shahreza and many many others, mainly from overseas like Rico, Joe, Mike and of course Vuk and the one Vuk banished, Brian.
Then there's Stallion, Steven and Samantha, without whom I would have lost most of my material.
Thanks also to Paul Stephenson, Mark and Sheila and all the guys at HQ.
All of you have made my life richer one way and another.
Alex
