Silverstone GP - best locations

Posted by: anderson.council on 17 December 2009

Hi guys,

I'm about to get some tickets sorted out for the F1 GP at Silverstone and although I've been there for the 1000Km race (since we got back from Oz) it's been many a year since I was there on a GP day.

There seems to be a variety of ticket packages available and I'm wondering which ones, for the folks that do go, have been the best/most value in terms of watching the cars. Note: I don't care about quality of the food/frequency of champagne refills or how close to some "z-list celebrity" you got.

I'm thinking about the Club Silverstone package - has anyone had that one before and if so how was it.

I'd rather be out on the circuit but with the masses of people guaranteed for the race day you can't just wander round and pick the spot you want and then carry on round.

My memory of race day in General Admission is arrive at 05:00 (or thereabouts) and wherever you setup camp - that's it for the day. I'd love to be told this has changed but with the best will in the world I don't see how this could be changed. Hence the enquiry about Grandstand / semi-corporate packages.

Cheers
Scott

We were at Abbey area grandstands for F1 tyre testing. They come into the corner and accelerate to wards Bridge, you can also see in the distance the cars on Hanger straight and through the Vale also.

I'm not saying this is the best place but you get a pretty good view, and should be able to get some good shots with a modest tele photo.
Overall I'd rather be at Brands Hatch. Smile

I'm with you on that one BigH but seeing as we're now living in Buckingham and it's only just round a couple of corners and past Stowe Estate it would be rude not to go Smile

If I were to go again, the incredible Becketts would be my choice. The rate at which the cars change direction there is something worth seeing. And the circuit looks less like the back end of a rough industral estate from there, unlike from the end of the Hangar straight.

That is where the Club Silverstone grandstand is located and I totally agree Tony - watching the LM cars go through there was mesmerising.
