A few months ago, there was mention (maybe by Paul S. ???) of a Naim DVD/CD player. I've been waiting for this baby and now I'm in something of a rush. My wife turned up the heat on getting a bigger-than-my-20-year-old-19" tele and we got one of these:
Mitsubishi 55" Projection Televisionand my current DVD player is not a progressive scan model.
C'mon Naim - when's the new player gonna hit the street and what will it cost (in USD please)?

The box would convert to S-Video, but not increase the quality of the signal, yes?
In any event, THE THING LOOKS BLOODY MARVOLOUS!!! We were blown away watching DVDs of Chaplan films and later The Fifth Element. Even without progressive, it looks cracking good (OK - not as good as HDTV, but really good).
What we didn't expect is that movies would make so much more sense. My wife and I both noticed this - scenes that seemed pointless before now flow and make sense. Better in a "flat earth" kindof way, if you will.
My first tweak was to adjust the convergence, which was way off upon delivery. Easy adjustment and made a HUGE difference. Next up was the brightness and contrast, which were way too high out of the box. Looks impressive, but not natural and can burn out the guns.
Next tweak will be to disable the SVM processor. This is done by entering the maintenance menu system using special codes on the remote. This will clean up vertical lines that are exaggerated by the processor. The processor is fine for smaller teles, but messes things up on a big screen.
First real DIY project with the tele is to build a red push filter. All of these teles (and the smaller tube ones too) have "red push" engineered in so they look better in the shop (no green fleshtones) and you have to get rid of it to get natural looking colors. Total cost is about $10 US at Radio Shack.
And thanx to all who replied to the "How Big" thread in the Padded Cell and forwarded me to the very useful video forums.
