CDX Feet

Posted by: ted on 10 January 2003

I have a cdx on a glass wall mount shelf, the shelf itself is steel with spikes that go under the glass shelf. The cdx feet are hard plastic I guess, slippery on the glass shelf. Sounds wonderful though. Nac 82, hi, and 250 on more wall mount shelfs. Should I swap the cdx feet with the rubber feet from the hi cap or 250 or leave them as is, would the sound suffer? I'm on the west coast usa and I always wonder if a minor earthquake it might slide off the shelf. Are those feet that important? Thanks Ted.

A while ago I asked Naim directly a similiar question. The response, basically, was to stop worrying and listen to the music.

"The cdx feet are hard plastic I guess, slippery on the glass shelf."

Slippery yes, hard plastic no.

"Should I swap the cdx feet with the rubber feet from the hi cap or 250 or leave them as is, would the sound suffer?"

The feet on your CDX are made of metal (and for a reason). Don't replace them with rubber feet and don't replace the rubber feet on your other Naim components with these metal feet...and yes, the sound would suffer.

"I'm on the west coast usa and I always wonder if a minor earthquake it might slide off the shelf."

Very likely Ted....time to call your Insurance Agent and review your coverage.

TED,

Silly question?

but you state in your question that your CDX sounds wonderful!

If it sounds wonderful why change it?

Ted,

Naim sell some little plastic stick-ons which are designed to stop Fraim glass from sliding off their ball-bearings where kids/pets are involved.

I don't know if these are large enough that they could be put on the upper side of the glass where the CDX feet go, instead (or even as well)?

BTW, the CDX' feet are metal, and are understood to be important to the sound.

cheers, Martin

Soft rubber degrades the sound, more than I would have believed possible until I tried it. A tiny square of double sided sticky tape stops it sliding about. I have not tried different brands of tape back to back etc etc.

the kind gentlemen from Mana supply little rubber feet that attach to the feet of the CDX. I have used them for some time with a Mana stand and the effects have been most pleasing.

By the way, you need to watch that the feet give your CDX a stable base. If not, Naim supply thin washers to use as shims to balance up the relative heights of the feet.

Mike,

the feet on the CDX2 are metal. For the sake of visual consistency, they look just like the rubber ones we fit to other equipment in the new range.

If your CDX2 has rubber feet fitted then a mistake has been made - contact us and we'll sort out some metal ones for you.
