AV2 & 5.1 input from HD-DVD Player

I've got a bit of a problem with the connections for my AV2 and Toshiba HD-A1.

It all works fine with Coax but to try out Dolby TrueHD need to us the 5.1 outputs on it.

I've got 4 Phono>Din and 2 Phono>Din leads and have connected it all up. With the 4 Phono>Din (Centre, Sub, Rear L & R) going into VIPS2 and the 2 Phono>Din going into VIPS1 (Front L & R) but I'm not getting any sound from the rears.

When I plugged both into the AV2, it offered me the choice of 6CH or 8CH and I chose 6CH.

I've taken out the cables and checked the connections and everything seems fine but still no sound from the rears.

Any ideas?

Must have 2 x 4 Phono>Din for 7.1, i.e., rears. If the HD-DVD player offers no rear-channel outputs, there'll be no output from the rear channels.

It's only 5.1 and there's only 6 outputs on the back of the HD-DVD player. I get confused between surrounds and rears!

The odd bit is that the centre and sub are off the same lead (4 Phone>Din) and they work fine.

VIP input 1 handles L / R / Ls / Rs, input 2 handles C / LFE / Rls / Rrs when set to 8CH (or C / LFE when set to 6CH).

Ls = left surround (sides)
Rs = right surround (sides)

Rls = left rear (rears)
Rrs = right rear (rears)

according to the ITU labeling schema.
