n-Vi
Posted by: Grant MacD on 07 September 2006
Hi everyone,
I recieved my n-Vi today and couldn't wait to set it up! I know there have been problems with earlier builds and on the advice of my dealer I waited until now to purchase one. (My dealer returned his previous stock to Naim while R&D looked into things)
Anyway, at the moment I have it connected to my Sony Bravia T.V. but I don't have a proper 5.1 setup as yet and was wondering if any of you guys could tell me what the sound quality is like.
The reason I bought it was that everything came in the one box - takes up less space - and not to mention the DAB tuner which is a bonus.
Any thoughts and/or opinions would as always be very much appreciated!
Take care.
Grant.

Hi Grant,
I have not had extensive listening, but have had three demos, two with Naim N-Sats and one with M&k speakers. In each case i was hugely impressed and have now ordered one.I would say that sound quality is as good if not better than similarly priced Arcam/Denon, but for me it was the picture quality that won. Also not forgetting the convenience of player and amp in one box which became the 'icing on the cake' for me.
Incidently i went for the M&k zenon speakers, as others have said (and i agree)they are not anywhere near as natural as the Naim Nsats. But i already have a decent two channel rig for stereo, and as i dont often listen to music dvds, wanted more excitement from movies.
Which Sony do you have?, i am veering towards either 32" or 40" V series lcd sets, and any comments would be helpful.
Regards Mike.

grant, have had my n-/vi for a couple of months now, don't know what arcam/denon set up mike had, but i had arcam dv-89 denon 3805 and in my opinon the n-vi is far better in both picture and sound quality, it lacks some of the features of the 3805 ie 7 channel out-put etc but more than makes up for it in sound quality, just hope yours is bug free, my dealer is coming round saturday to install latest software update until my replacement n-vi turns up, i am using 3 x mk k17s pair of k4s and a vx100 sub and find even in stereo sound to be very pleasing, hope this helps.

Hi all,
Thanks for your thoughts!
Sorry, I should have mentioned my previous DVD player which was the Arcam DV29 (I think that's right).
Mike, for your info my Sony Bravia's model no. is KDL40V2000. It's 40 inch (obviously) and the "V" stands for the model within the range. I think you can get an "S" model which is about £500 cheaper but doesn't have the same "vibrant colour system" - Sony's words, not mine!
Take care everyone and have a nice weekend.
Take.
