HDX doesn't accept converted ARTIST NAMES to Artist Names

Posted by: rjstaines on 05 April 2010

I have been using MP3tag to make corrections to artist names (& other things) in files stored on a networked PC and a NAS.
I changed ARCTIC MONKEYS to Arctic Monkeys & re-scanned the folder. HDX still says ARCTIC MONKEYS (doesn't see the change from caps to mixed).
I changed Arctic Monkeys to Arctic.Monkeys (added full stop)& re-scan. HDX says Arctic.Monkeys (OK).
I changed Arctic.Monkeys to Arctic Monkeys (removed full stop) and HDX says ARCTIC MONKEYS (CAPS again!!! How on earth does it do that??).
I move this folder of 12 tracks to another location on the same PC and the behaviour is the same.
I have removed this share from the HDX (ignore host), then re-instated it. It rescans, of course, and behaviour is exactly the same.

So somewhere in the HDX is a map of this particular folder full of tracks which has the artist in CAPS. How do I 'reset' this particular bit of memory?

This has happened with other artists too.
Help anyone?

What filetypes are you using? Flac, WAV, or ...?

In MP3Tag also check under View/Extended Tags ... if there are any other tags that still contain the wrong capitalisation.

Check in your settings the behaviuor of MP3Tag regarding deleting and writing of the different tag-types for the various audio file types. MY settings are such that I only keep the one that is appropriate for the file-type and delete all others that not belong to the specific filetype.

Hope this can help a bit.

Case insensitivity in Windows?

Aleg - MP3. Have also checked all tag types & found no other data.
Have moved (not copied) ALL instances of Arctic Monkeys to ONE folder (called TEST) & made this available on HDX. Have then deleted all but ONE track. This one remaining track has artist = Arctic Monkeys, but HDX still reports it as ARCTIC MONKEYS. Have also used two other tag writing programs and have also checked this one remaining MP3 file's integrity with MP3Test (reports 0 errors).
I've worked in computing for 40 years & solved countless data content problems, but this HDX seems a law unto itself at the moment!
(PS - My objective - tidy up my music by the time my 555PS arrives). Roger

A curious phenomena indeed.

I wonder what the solution will be Confused

BTW. The tagtype should be ID3V1 or ID3V2. I would go for ID3V2.

I discovered a problem in Songbird for retagging in that although you have re tagged it kept the old tag and as the old tag was first it took preference.

Not that I own a HDX so cannot say if its your issue.

Having spoken to a very nice chap at Naim (they're all nice chaps, of course), he tells me the database is case insensitive, so once it has seen caps it will remember caps and trying to change it to lower or mixed 'aint going to work.
So next trick will be disconnect all shares, do a database rebuild (tools) then re-connect the shares. This he tells me will add the data that it now sees, i.e. mixed case, in the format that it sees it. ...simple! I'll report back.
