system mark 2

Some of you may remember that i didtched most of my Naim kit (CDS2/52/Active SBL's etc.) last year in favour of an all digital set up using a mac / giant hard disc / active monitors (thread was called I'm Outta Here from memory)... Rather predicatably it sounds pretty terrible in comparison although it has its moments and is pretty convenient / suitable for lifestyle etc.

Anyway we've just bought a weekend cottage in Norfolk so i'll have the opportunity to wheel out my LP12 (which i didn't sell) to front a new system because to be frank i'm missing listening to music as i used to ... The question for you guys is what amp and speakers might be right

Here's the brief:

I've got about £2k max to spend (for both amp and speakers) and i'm quite keen to avoid Naim as i just can't bear the thought of having to schlep all the way up through the hierarchy again (much as i enjoyed it the first time round). Front end is LP12 / Aro / Prefix / HiCap / Dynavector DV DRT XV1 ... i sold the mana so may have to rebuy or consider alternative

The room is pretty small (13 x 8) and my vinyl tends to be mainly jazz / latin / dance

So any thought re amp and speakers for this? ... i have a mind a high quality integrated and against the wall bookshelf monitors ...

I'd say its time for a trawl through the magazines, lots of non Naim recommendations in there!

I know the 5 series isn't "new" but it doesn't even seem to be appearing in group tests any more.

Is Naim the only way forward?

Or of course Nait 5 and Katans. Given the budget...
