I think that is what I shall call my interconnects as of later this week, for they are *toasted!*
Yup, I'm borrowing a demo pair of conventionally run-in Chord Anthem interconnects, while my own two pairs are *toasted* using the Nordost Cable Toaster.
Basically, you plug in your interconnnects into this box which sends an electrical current through your interconnects for 96 hours to burn them in.
My dealer offers this service free of charge to those who buy their interconnects from him.
Or he charges you 30 quid a go...
I'll post the results of my findings at the earliest opportunity, as I'll be in a position to compare them with the un-toasted versions currently lodging in my system.

I thought Beezlebub had been banned wink

James,
You obviously don't think that burning in cables makes the slightest bit of difference.
Have you actually tested this hypothesis yourself?

So Steven are you getting them burned in or not? Question is, I thought you were kinda sensible, not prone to bullshit, yet 30 quid for a currant? Presumably you are taking the piss, in which case nice one. My anthem tastes great as it is, but I like them rare.

You just seemed to be displaying the same healthy scepticism we became used to from Beezlebub before his departure. wink
Fakey farts and all that...
I have had one of my pairs of interconnects toasted (it is a full 96 hour process, BTW,) but as yet, it is not possible to plug the DIN end of my CDP/pre interconnect into the Nordost Cable Toaster, so I am waiting for my dealer to construct a suitable adaptor to do the job.
It costs nothing for me, but I won't be in a position to say whether or not it makes a big difference, until I've tried it out.
If it does, then even at 30 quid, it may still be better value than a more costly upgrade elsewhere in the system.
It's worth a try when it doesn't cost you anything, don't you think? wink

Calling Jason Hector...

One of the purposes of this forum, apart from the mud slinging during the discussions about religion and politics wink , is to talk about cost-effective upgrades, is it not?
That's why we come here - to chat about making our *choons* sound sweeter.
Come to think about it, that is rather sad, as we should be spending all our spare time listening to our music, and not talking about the state of our equipment on this forum.
Hi-fi is always broken - the insatiability of human nature sees to that!
For those of you with relatively unbroken systems, e.g: LP12/Aro/'Geddon/Lyra Helicon, CDS2/52/500/DBLs, on Fraim, your next fix is probably going to cost you in the region of fifteen grand! (This is pure speculation, but I'm sure I've read it somewhere here! wink )
The thirty quid - or in my case nowt, pales into insignificance in comparison.
Yet it may bring about a significant improvement in musical enjoyment to those of us with mongrel systems - where interconnects can - and do make a big difference. smile

If this makes such a difference why is it not done for you by the manufactuers, as you say its cheap, they could make their leads so much better by burning it in.

Sorry but IMO this is a load of rubbish pure and simple, a bit like why manufactuers of leads won't give out specific real world results of their leads performance or participate in their own blind testing between their own products.

I got an anthem for my cd player the other week, (Cheaply) and for the life of me if there was a difference between that and the normal grey chord lead I couldn't detect it. Mind you it looks nice.

Of course if you are going to spend say thirty quid on a 'burn in' then you will notice a difference, every one dwould, otherwise you would feel a bit of a ninny. Good job you are having yours done for free, hopefully you can give us an honest response. I wait with some aticipation, I may stick mine in the oven then chill it in the freezer if its a good result wink

Don't say that. I bought an Anthem to run from my old DPA to my 82, phono to DIN. A month later I bought a CDX/XPS. The nice guys at Chord swapped to a DIN/DIN for me for free, but I'm buggered if I can tell the difference between the £250 Anthem and the bit of grey lamp flex that comes free with the CDX. Don't tell Paul S.

But as you say, it does look nice, even if it's harder to dress than NAC A5!

Oh deary, deary me!
If you have an all-Naim system interconnects make precious little difference. In fact, the standard grey Naim one is about as good as it gets.
So who was silly enough to spend 250 quid on something that did not make a sonic difference, i.e: they didn't audition it first?
Before I committed myself to my Anthems, I first heard them through a replica of my CD5/FC2/Densen B200/300 system at the shop.
Then I took them home for a few days.
When I was convinced that I couldn't part with them, I orderd a pair, and my dealer let me keep his demo ones until mine had arrived - and until one pair had been toasted.
I still have a demo pair because he wants to know how I get on with the A/B demo of toasted/conventionally run-in pair, in my system at home.

Well I was the one who spent £250 quid on the thing, so I guess you must mean me. And don't I feel foolish! Thanks for pointing out what a pillock I've been.. oh, but wait a minute. If you re-read my e-mail, you'll see that I had the Anthem before I got a Naim freebie. And yes I did audition it, and yes, it was a vast improvement on the previous bit of string I was using.

In other threads here Steven, you have lambasted others for not properly reading what has been written before leaping in with responses, or for their "patronising and arrogant" stance.

Try:

a) Practising what you preach, and
b) Looking objectively at the tone of your e-mails

I was actually refering to you and your all-Naim system, and not to Duncan.
How much did you pay for that Anthem, BTW, if you don't mind me asking?
Did you audition it first against the Naim freebie, or did you just think - a bargain, I'll have that! ?
Personally,I'd rather pay full price for something I know is a real improvement than snap up a so-called bargain that I don't get the chance to hear.
For the record, I paid 550 GBP for two pairs of Anthems - rather a lot for bits of string, don't you think? wink

Well it cost that much but the thing is I had a nordest blue heaven cable which I sold, I got that lead for nothing off a mate so that went towards the anthem if you get me so basically it was very cheap. I mean no dissrespect on this subject, just to my ears I cannot tell the difference. I am coming around about the stands thing and a set of Nordest Pulsar Points for the CDI even had the girlfriend commenting on the sound difference but the cables, well in this case it looked good so I had to have it and really thats the only decision I had to make roll eyes

I still think that given yours is an all-Naim system (I checked your profile) you would be better off selling your Anthem - which look like a Curly Wurly hanging from the back of your equipment wink , and just use the bog standard Naim lead.
Given that using exotic interconnects seems to make no difference in an all-Naim system, you probably wouldn't notice any improvement from toasting the standard Naim lead either.

well the thing is I have both now, and it does look so tasty, I will keep it, it was much the same as the nordest blue heaven, I couldn't detect any difference between that and the normal lead, but hey ho when people came round i could say 'yea that cost 180 quid', its all about showing off, cept up here in Watford i don't know many people yet so I am just showing off to myself! (Really I want a new pre amp but can't afford one!)
