Yeah whatever happened to the quality acts we used to get on TOTP like
Clive Dunne, Ken Dodd, Val Doonican, Joe Dolce et al....

Though not my cup of tea, those two are sadly two of the more talented acts in the pop arena at the moment.

Joe Dolce. the man famed for keeping Ultravox from the top of the chart with the classic song: Shaddap You Face, a Number One Hit in 15 countries and the most successful single in Australian music history for over 25 years, (breaking Slim Dusty's legendary 22 year record for 'The Pub With No Beer!), is currently Currently a regular and featured performer at major folk festivals in Australia.

Lately, Joe's written 'Gift (One Iraqi child)' - anti-Iraqi War peace song and 'Did You Get Stupid from Being Ugly (Or Ugly From Being Stupid?)' - anti-Religious Right blues protest song. Both won awards at the Sonicbids competition and are on the 'Peace Songs for a Better World' album released in 2005.

As you probably know, Joe composed and orchestrated Joan On Fire, a one hour oratorio for string orchestra, SATB choir, soloists and brass trio that was premiered by the Melbourne Chamber Orchestra and Chorelation Choir. He is, of course, still active as the principal of the literary-folk music cabaret. Joe appeared at the Vancover Folk Festival, Winipeg Folk Festival, Harrison Hot Springs Arts festival and Woodford Folk Festival (6 times) and the Edinburgh Festival (two seasons).

But he's not been on TOTP lately.

David Gray and Jamie Callum

Hilary, my dear wife, recently bought the new David Gray album. It's as crap as all his others, but at least he does not murder any Soft Cell classics. Middle class dinner party muzak. And Jamie Cullum looks like a hobbit. Uurgh.

Strange, but for some reason, although I don't really enjoy David Gray's music and wouldn't buy any, I can't help but have a mild respect for what he does and the way that he does it. I dunno why.

Whilst I agree with all the sentiments in your last post - I wonder why you are being so cruel about about hobbits Big Grin
