Confused Eek Confused Wanna come and do mine? Which do I like most gardening or having a tooth pulled without an anaesthetic - hmm, it's close.

Whilst I love my children dearly the peace and tranquility of gardening is precious. If you had my lot for the day ROTF you would take up gardening believe me.

by the way i saw this article about Jon Canter giving up his Ipswich season ticket yesterday here

Interesting article

quote:
You don't know the meaning of the word "mediocrity" till you watch a mid-table Championship side like Ipswich draw 0-0 with Plymouth. Then you go home, wait a few hours and switch on Match of the Day. Ronaldo! Rooney! Lampard! Gerrard! Torres! Suddenly, you remember why you love the game.

I'm not in agreement with that statement at all - I wouldn't want to watch Ronaldo or Torres every week. That's not why I support the Tractor Boys. I've seen the best: Crawford, Viljoen, Beattie, Whymark, Mariner, Butcher, Muhren, Thijssen, Wark, Gates, Stewart and so on. However, they were not well known stars when we brought them to Portman Road - they did not cost a fortune. My nervousness is we are going to spend money and, to quote the late great Kevin Coyne, seen it all, seen it all before. 5th in the Premier League and a real chance of breaking in to the top 4; in Marcus Stewart we had the best centre forward in the league at that time; and what did we do? Bought expensive players who were beyond useless - Karic, Sereni, LePenn and the worst of them all Finidi - result relegation and performances so embarrassing it was beyond belief. Now those players were an insult to paying fans. I just don't want that to happen again and the new board members seem to be talking that way - their ambitions, their plans and ... we are Ipswich Town, we are the team that was built by Cobbolds, where a crises meant there was not sufficient sherry in the drinks cupboard.

So now they sack managers, crave instant success and .... well it just isn't cricket.

I'll see how things go, but our family which has gone since the days when Scott Duncan was manager have not renewed their season tickets; I started a bit later when we had a manager called Alf Ramsey, who was later knighted after we had one the league under his guidance (surely his greatest achievement) and Sir Bobby, again knighted after we had won the FA Cup (surely his greatest achievement).

We even beat the German national side in Escape to Victory.

It's not Roy Keane we don't like; it is the behaviour of the current board.

I will go to matches next season and I hope to be proved wrong and see a team full of academy graduates and shrewd buys from the lower divisions blossom in to a winning side. However, if we are paying £5m for Carlos Kickabout then count me out; I'll take up gardening.
