Hot in the City

Posted by: Matthew T on 26 July 2001

Listened to my hifi yesterday evening after a rather warm day (my rooom was pretty hot) and it just didn't do for me, sounded pretty boring really. System or me I don't know but does anybody else find the same in hot weather?

Sounds pretty familiar, Matthew!

I also have problems listening to my system when the tempreatures are too high.
Because the heat is an irritating factor, it's harder to concentrate on the music. It doesn't involve or excite me as much as it normally would.

another factor (in my case) is probably that I have to close all the (heavy) curtains when it's getting too hot, which destroys some of my system's character.

So, these days I spent more time ehhh...on HiFi-forums. (or enjoying some refreshments
(iccream/icetea on my balcony)

Greetings,
Alco.

Hmm, thanx for the tip, Patrick.

but... despite my name,I don't drink Alcohol.
but a big frosted glass of coke with 1 or 2 icecubes might also do the trick.

To me, hot weather is >25 degrees (Celsius) like it's now in Holland, and it's even getting much hotter over the weekend. Aaaargggh!

Now,I know, many people enjoy it, but to me it's mostly irritating.

like:
Hard to get some sleep at night,in my sticky, sweaty bed.
Bugs and stings 'bugging' all the time.
Takes all my energy when I'm at work.
hard to enjoy my music when the sweat is pouring of my face and onder my arms. yek!

The only times I kinda like these temepratures is when I'm enjoying my holiday, but that rarely happends.

ok,ok, enough complaining for one day.

Greetings Y'all, from a hot and steamy (read: nice & sunny) Holland

Stop whingeing, ya wimp!
It's meant to be hot, it's called summer.
what would you do if the temperature was consistently above 30 degrees all summer, occasionally hitting 40?
Simple: you'd acclimatise. Humidity is more a problem for me than heat - not good for hi-fi either!

It's always a nice day for it, have a good one wink

And you call 25 hot; it's 30 to 34 here in Montreal, it's a regular temp for that time of the year.

Anyway, your next upgrade should be an air conditioner. As you describe the sound you get from you system, you absolutely need the AC before anything else.

Hi folks,

Normally I wouldn't call 25 degrees Celsius or more hot, but what I actually meant was the temperatures inside my living/bedroom and the office where I work. When it's about >25 outdoors,it can reach to about 30/33 inside.

those temperatures without a breeze of fresh wind,I call hot.

as i said, most people like it. I'm more of a winter kinda guy. (Hard to imagine,eh)

I prefer cooler weather. It's even hot in Sweden at the moment my girlfriend says - maybe I should move to Iceland. Still, it's nice driving with the roof off.

Listening in hot weather is a pain as well because I have to close the windows to listen. I hate hearing other peoples music so no reason they should hear mine!

Alco, I don't drink either. Maybe there's a pattern there?

Yesterday night everything was sounding a lot better. Guess it could have been the flight from Geneva on Wednesday afternoon that 'distressed' my ears.

England is one of the countries that is completely unable to deal with hot or cold weather, no AC, no snow ploughs...etc.

I classify temperatures as the following
Very Cold >-10
Cold -10 to 0
Chilly 0 to 10
Cool 10 to 18
Pleasent 18 to 25
Warm 25 to 30
Quite Hot 30 to 35
Very Hot 35 to 40
Much too hot 40+

This is assuming moderate levels of humidity. However, because my office doesn't have AC anything above 25 is sweat inducing which is not much fun in shirt and tie!

The weather folks here in the UK have suggested that the temperature may rise well into the thirties over the next couple of weeks. Listening to music in my upstairs room will therefore become unbearable.
I'll simply have to find other things to do during this time, if it happens, OUTSIDE!

It's always a nice day for it, have a good one wink

PS: My above signature is now taking on an ironic twist!

Steven,

I see you couldn't get much sleep either. Probably like me because of the hot temperature and no air conditioning.
