Listening room choice

Buying a house - wondered if anyone cared to help with the listening room choice:

1. 8' x 14' x 17', carpet, speakers could be on any of the four walls
2. 8' x 12'6" x 18', one end opens onto kitchen/dining extending another 10'. Other end is a brick wall with fireplace and 18" high and 18" deep ledge (fireplace hearth?) across width of room . Pergo floor. Speakers (NBLs) could be in front of brick ledge and wall, either side of fireplace, or against long wall.
Either room could be "modified" to remove flat ceiling, replacing with a sloping one.

I know I should try both but that may be difficult since the movers will have to put the pool table in the other room Smile

I mis-read your list numbers as part of the dimensions at first glance!

I thought the first dimensions were 1 point 8 feet and 2 point 8 feet respectively, and was about to suggest that neither room provided much 'headroom' for the sound!

I can't advise on which room would provide the best sound, but room 1 appears to offer the best choice for placement of the speakers, and keeping the sound from the rest of the house. The flip side is that room 2 would allow the system to be heard clearly in the dining room, which may be more useful.

Regards,
Steve.

I would suggest the wider room.

One foot less length won't make much difference, but a foot more width probably will.
