Ukelele Orechestra of Great Britain

Following on from the previous Ukelele thread. I had the pleasure of seeing this lot live in Oxford a few nights ago. An incredible evening of musical entertainment ranging from crying with laughter at the comedy through to admiration for the sheer playing skill and vocal capabilities of the group.

Where else could you hear covers of "Physco killer",Talking heads; "Caroline, Quo"; Kate Bush's, "Wuthering Heights - done in the style of a Yorkshire folk song, Isaac Heyes "Shaft" and a comedic masterpiece of J'taime.

All played on 6 Ukelele's and one "Bass Ukelele" aka Guitar!

If you get a chance to see this lot live, I would highly recommend it

The Video clips give a good flavour of what they are about.

And where better to see them that at the Larmer Tree Festival? I've not seen them before but after hearing their version of 'Another Girl Another Planet' on Kershaw a few weeks back I may have to give them a try.

Superb live act!

Seen them twice at Guilfest, where they had the opening slot on the Sunday. Well worth getting up early for. They came on early and did an extended "Soundcheck", they played (amongst others) Born to Be Wild. They got a standing ovation for that one (for a soundcheck!!!) before starting their "official" set at Midday.

The set included some of the above and also

Smells like Teen Spirit
The theme from "The Good the Bad and the Ugly"
Teenage Kicks
Silver Machine

and of course the George Formby classic "Leaning on a Lamppost", but not as we know it.

The correct spelling is ukulele. The only reason I know this is because Clint Eastwood said so in a movie.
