Hi Number 5,
Not sure what the going price is these days for a 'new' LP12, but as Liquidken says, it could be just a bare chassis.
You need to check the exact date of manufacture, and the contents of the box, depending on the date, it may or may not have a Valhalla (PSU) board, but I think these may be shipped seperately (not available new now, replaced by the Basik PSU, or the mucho expensive Lingo, your choice).
A good idea is to get hold of an LP12 setting up manual (all good Linn dealers have one) which details not only the method for setting up, but all the various mods which were introduced over the years, some minor, some very significant in terms of sonic improvement.
As its new however, my estimate is that even a chassis on it's own (i.e. no arm, cart, or psu)would be worth in the regions of 500+ pounds), how much + depending on the age and modification standard. (some mods are expensive, so beware). Also worthy of note, LP12's never came complete with tone arm, you basically specified what you wanted, and then paid extra for it. A good bet (classic choice) was the Ittok II, or cheaper Akito, although I've seen many with just the Basik+ arm on. SH prices for Ittok's are about 3-400 quid.
For your info, here are some of the major upgrades which may or may not be incorporated:
1. Cirkus upgrade (mods to bearing platter)
2. Valhalla PSU board (precision power supply, the dogs bollocks until the Lingo arrived)
3. Trampoline upgrade (complete replacement of the base to incorporate new feet)
Hope this is of some help.
Mike
