Phono Boards

Posted by: plynnplynn on 31 March 2002

I note that Martin Payne in an earlier thread said the following:

Naim cartridge boards are available in the following configurations:-

Cartridge and high level options
Moving Magnet type "N" 2mV, 47 KOhms
Moving Coil type "S" 100µV, 470 Ohms
Moving Coil type "K" 100µV, 560 Ohms
Moving Coil type "E" 400µV, 560 Ohms

(from the Naim site).

Unfortunately I cannot find the pages. Can anyone help?

Also does this mean that boards are interchangeable across the full range of pre-amps? ie will a phono board from a Nait fit a 32.5, or an 82 etc?

Try :-

Main website; components; amplifiers; preamps; 52; specification.

You should find the list of optional phono boards that can be specified for your brand new 52!!!

Same boards can be ordered up separately.

Have a look at 82/112/102 also.

Cheers

Thanks for help. I downloaded pre-amps manual and got the info there for current amps but not older equipment. Does anyone know of a site which has that information?

I agree with John - I've not seen any on Ebay or Audiogon either. However, you can find 32-5s with the 72 boards if you are patient. The price differential between selling a decent 32-5 and buying one with the 72 boards is almost always less than the $325 dealers will charge. I did this myself.

There have been a couple of pairs of 729s available--one was $200 or more, and I think Tony L sold his boards and his 32-5 separately.

Phono boards for the old style are very common on ebay, running $20-$50 depending on revision number (most recent being -4 for mm and -5 for mc).

For the new style boards, prices get closer to $80, as these are much less common.

Thanks for all the helpful comments. I was also emailed with information about a potential supplier but only mc were available. I am looking for second-hand 322mm. Any ideas would be welcome.

Re: Second hand 322 moving magnet boards.

I have two clean virgin ones sitting on my desk in front of me, model 322/4 and I'm unsure of vintage.

They've been totally un-fiddled with since I don't use MM, they came from a 42.5 that now has the phono inouts as line level.

I have no idea what you think they are worth, but I don't want any cash for them, a CD in exchange would get them winging their way towards you. I have a list of 'wanted' discs wink

Drop me an email via the link in the profile - don't forget to remove the NOFINSPAM bit!
