CD5 makes vibrating noises when turned on?

Hi everyone!

I'm a first time Naim owner. Just got a CD5 recently in a non-Naim system. Only had it for about 2 weeks but it already sounds wonderful. Best sound I've ever heard coming out of my 10+ year old Reference 3a MM speakers! Every CD I've played has gotten my head bopping and feet tapping... I know people always say the same thing about Naim, but I thought it was just an exageration... now I know it's true!

My question is if it's normal to hear vibrating noises coming from the player when it's first turned on? Sounds like something inside is being shaken violently. It only lasts for about 2 seconds then it stops. Other than that, it works flawlessly. Love that swing out door and build quality!

Thanks,
Kei

Certain American discs do that - they are too thin for the puck to grip them properly, but the CD5/CDX always sorts 'em out eventually.

Steve.

The proof of the pudding...

The vibrating/shaking noise occurs when powered up from the mains switch in the back. Sorry for not being more clear.

There's no CD in the player, although the puck is inside.....hmmm...

Eureka! Just tried powering it up WITHOUT the puck inside and it doesn't make that noise any more! Thanks guys!

As eveyone else suggests, I normally leave the player on all the time except when I know I'll be gone for a few days, in which case I power down my system.

Thanks,
Kei

I'd advise leaving the puck out of the machine when not in use anyway.

I've had several Naim players and the puck seems to stay more 'sticky' this way.

Keep it somewhere clean, dust free and upside down when not in use.

Regular cleaning of the magnets, rubbers and platter with blu-tack is also good practice.
