hail,

I'm in a bit of a pickle. To make a long story short I need to patch up a chip in a black marble column. A small sized chunk is missing from one of the corners.

What can I do? I've tried epoxy and black paint but it looked way too obvious.

Hail Ceasar,

mike.

Mike, without seeing the column and without being up to speed on Canadian supplies its difficult to advise.

Options include:

Turn it round so you can't see the missing bit.

Add things to epoxy in order to make it the right colour rather than adding paint later.

As above but use polyester resin.

Fill it with something more forgiving than polyester or epoxy and then paint it better.

Try to find a piece of similar marble and shape to fit.

Give it to someone who knows what they're doing.

Good luck.

Thank you for the input.

I've got a number of perfectly good bronze statues here, but their marble bases are chipped. Scratches are easy enough to deal with, but chips are a bitch.

I'll try blending some black paint into the epoxy, but the poly resin sounds like the ticket.

I fancy myself a bit of a restorer, but my friends say I'm more of a zerstorer.
