HiCap - how much for a 10 year old in excellent condition?

Posted by: Top Cat on 01 October 2002

Hi folks.

I'm asking this on behalf of a friend who has a spare HiCap but isn't a member here. He's not sure how much the going rate for a secondhand HiCap of approximately 1992 vintage (TBC by serial no) and where best to sell it? He's also Edinburgh based, but if anyone is interested if you email me I'll pass your details onto him.

It's not mine. The only Naim I own these days is a Nait 2 in a second system, so rest assured if I was selling it myself I'd be a bit more obvious, e.g. HiCap for sale, £xxx.

I don't know if my friend knows how much it is actually worth, though I'd guess at £400 based upon what I've seen here, though maybe that's too little or too much...

It will need to be recapped at £100.00 approx plus postage. So if it is in good condition, I would pay £275.00.

Lumping all Hi-Caps together, I've seen them go for $365 - $800 (19 examples, $600 mean) in the UK (US prices are higher; $475 - $900, 33 examples, $650 mean). For good used ones needing a recap, I've personally bought two, one for $500 and the other for $550. Note that these prices are in dollars.
