Can anyone make any recommendations for top quality towels?

In the UK we just got some real nice ones from the local John Lewis store near Bristol. Their own brand seemed very good (and not at all girly)

A towel... is about the most massively useful thing an interstellar hitch hiker can have.

I read somewhere that Egyptian cotton is the Dog's nads for towelling purposes.
And for what it's worth Fairly Liquid is ever so gentle on the hands...

We bought some Christy's 100% Egyptian Cotton Bath sheets (Big) a couple of years ago from the Kendals (House of Fraser) Sale at half Price around this time of year and 2 years on they are still superb. They are expensive but well worth the outlay in the Sales.

Most of my business shirts are tailored by Hildich and Key. They are superbly comfortable and last forever.
They are made from Egyptian cotton.

re Shirts
with dress down/business casual now being the norm, the 'proper' shirt manufacturers must be really suffering. When I worked in the West End I'd probably get 7 - 10 new shirts a year from Jermyn St. at £50 a pop with 5 or so new £40 ties to suit. Commuting by train/tube ruins all your proper gear very quickly. However now I don't have to wear a suit every day it's 3 years since I bought a proper shirt.
I noticed that TM Lewins had a sale for most of December with EVERYTHING half price - £25 to £30 for a decent 2 fold cotton, double cuff shirt is no more than heading off to M&S.
