let's talk about cables: Naim amplification must use Naim cable?

I wonder what cable you guys using, besides naim cables, especially power cord and speaker cable. Please share your experience.

I have used Naim (and other) gear for well over 20 years. I have tried many, many, cables. Some cables I have used have been frighteningly expensive e.g. 1000 GBP for speaker leads, 500 GBP for 0.5m interconnects. The makes have been the usual high-end suspects. Having spent that kind of money, I have a serious emotional investment in them sounding better, and for a few weeks they seem to. BUT, always, always, when the pain of the expense has worn off I go back to the Naim originals and the system becomes better again.
IMO this also applies to non-Naim components in a system, including speakers, but best not go there today. Smile

p.s. in past years I have argued on this very forum that others must be able to do better

I use a dedicated ring and patchboard, made up from 15amp unswitched sockets, using standard Naim power cable with 15amp round pin plugs, much cheaper than a MusicWorks Megablock and more musical ta boot!

As a new Naim owner since a week ago, I'm still very much learning. The dealer sold me a Chord Anthem to connect the CDX2 to NAC202. The difference between this and the standard Naim cable is marked, which surprised a sceptic like me not a little. Overall I think I prefer the Naim cable - the music sounds better integrated. Somehow the Anthem, although making things sound crisper and tighter, fractures it. Maybe things will change as the kit burns in. I'll continue experimenting.

Hi John

Interesting your findings on the Anthem, when I dem'ed a CDX2 I tried a Chord Chorus which had a lot of control but not the overall performance of the Naim cable. In the end I did not buy a CDX2 but a Linn Ikemi which I think is a more musical player IMO.
I run a Chord Singature with the Ikemi, this interconect is in a different animal to other Chord cables it just lets the music through Big Grin.

Hello Doesn't Naim say you are not supposed to use any other speaker wire with their amps, like they will blow up or something, anybody tried the linn speaker wire on a naim amp?

Spot on.

Chord anthem kills the PRAT. It may offer a bit more treble but kills any timing and sits on the bass.
