The Masters

Posted by: Officer DBL on 09 April 2010

So Freddie Couples was tournament leader last night, with a bunch of good players in close contention - including a Tiger Woods who shot his first sub 70 first round in 16 appearances at the Masters.

Would anyone care to predict a winner at this stage?

Shaping up to be a classic with the old timers adding spice to the mix. Even Sandy Lyle didn't disgrace himself.

Pick a winner ? Don't be surprised if normal service is resumed and TW does the Augusta business once again. But personally I'm hoping Lee Westwood can win his first green jacket - been a long time coming for him.

Ian - sofa bound for the next few evenings!

PS and thanks to the Beeb for providing the delightful Lady Hazel as Masters anchor this year rather that the annoying crisp salesman :-)

Seconded!

I would like to see Ernie Els win, but failing that it would be great to see Lee up there.

Lefty and Tiger as the final pairing on Sunday.

I had to turn the Beeb off yesterday....Just happened to catch the 'Woods' T-off live on news24....He hits the ball, the other two (poor) chaps hit theirs and off they begin walking down the fairway.....As Tiger takes his first few paces, the commentator utters "So, Woods, he's won here before with a broken leg.....Can he win here again, with a broken heart..?" I nearly spat my beer out !!....'He's' got a broken heart.... He ?!!

The world has gone friggin mad....friggin celebrity mad at that....

Still, I'll give it to Tiger...He's either got the biggest balls in the world or absolutely no shame....The Nike advert and its timing would suggest the latter to me....

I admit Golf isn't really something I follow all that much, but on this occasion - even more than last year - I'd love to see one of the 'old timers' snatch the win....

Looks like Westwood and Poulter are smoking hot so far but Tiger is lurking.

Poulter has the self belief to close the deal should he be in contention on Sunday. Westwood always seems to bottle it a bit. Bad decisions at vital times. Woods however looks like he wants to prove a point.
Can't wait to watch it unfold. Shame that the freak weather has held back the flora around the course - it's usually so spectacular.

Steve.

I would love to see Lee Westwood win The Masters and it would be great if he and Poulter were still at the top of the leaderboard come Sunday. I somehow doubt that will be the case though. Tiger Woods is ominously close to the leaders - I must say he has surprised me to be in that position after a long absence, despite the fact he is so damn good!

What the hell do Tiger's pants-downs have to do with golf?

I like to witness the best in the world at the top of their game. I like to see them annihilate the opposition. I hate to see the "underdog" come through. I don't even like a close contest. Go Tiger. Beat the Bear's record. Smash it.

Winky,
His off course antics have nothing to do with golf. What is relevent is that perceived wisdom suggests absence from competition reduces "match sharpness". However Tiger doesn't appear to be suffering from this lack of competition, except maybe with his putting - but that was a little "off" (by Tiger standards) before his exile. If he gets his putter hot he will be impossible to live with.

Steve.

Is it not over yet ? (never mind, only another day to suffer before it disappears out of the "news" for another year).

Lee, Lefty and Tiger in the hunt. Great 3rd round and very promising for the final round tomorrow.

Fantastic 3rd round last night, at times the golf was ridiculously good. One of the top three needs to shoot 66 or better today to win the green jacket-great show in prospect. Smile

Amazing round so far. Mickelson is putting on a show - first that bad luck with the birdie put (thought stuff like this would only happen to me Big Grin) and then the amazing shot from under the trees. Advantage Lefty.

Congrats Mickelson, he played the strongest final round.

Well deserved win for Lefty, strongest player over the week. And that shot from under the trees was worthy of Seve - fantastically gutsy too at that point in the tournament.

Yep, congratulations to Mickelson. He looked to be the guy who could rise to the challenge yesterday- the shot out of the woods was just stunning.
I felt sorry for Westwood on Saturday. He saw his lead dwindle without really making a mistake out on the course. However, his first tee shot of the final round told Mickelson he was there for the taking.
As an aside, I was amazed to hear Tiger tell interviewer Peter Kostis he was "going to take some time off".
Regards,
Steve.

Has there ever been a Naim Golf Society?

Great golf, Lefty was the clear winner & looked like it over all 4 days
That shot out of the trees on the 13th was something else

if only - if only ..... Lee could have been the only player ever to hit 60's over 4 rounds. But he seemed to be missing the sparkle & the killer putts that he had over 3 days

Tiger had a crap round (for him) but still makes 4th. I thought it was only me who could 3 putt inside 5 feet.

Praise due to Lefty, he played a good final round and some of his golf was inspirational (and lucky - short out between trees so within 5' of pin). I did get the impression that he was permanently on the verge of exploding out of his shirt like the Incredible Hulk....

Felt sorry for Lee; he tried, but it didn't happen for him.

Amazing how even Tiger's really bad shots seemed to turn out reasonably well. I did get the impression with his driving at times that he was trying too much.
