Quadraphonic

So with all the talk of SACD and DVD - A who is old enough to remember Quadraphonic sound from the 70's then. I never had a system but heard several at Hi-Fi shows. Never did like it then though I have found some recent music DVD's with DTS very good on my humble AE P5 cimema system.

Stewart - (sigh), I remember quadrophonic. In fact I recently accquired a test record for set up of quad systems, (cartridges, speakers, etc.) and it is in excellent condition. (Going to frame it and hang in the living room)
For many years I used an ADS 10 surround device with banks of Mac amps and AR speakers. Decades ago. Much better than quad and did not require special format sources to work. Showing my age.

recently aquired a new old stock Quad copy of Desire by Dylan from a closing down record shop. I too heard Quad at shows and was unimpressed. I am similarly unimpressed by current music multi-channel, but like it in cinemas.

...but lasted longer.
I had to giggle when I saw this post. I recall the huge quad receivers, SQ-decoders and quad records (Dark Side Of The Moon, of course, was popular). Even then, the word was "why spend the money on extra speakers and processing? Spend it on better stereo gear". Wise words, especially in these current times.
Cheers
Keith.

I even have a so called simulated 4 channel amp from the mid 70s in working order and occasionally used.
