Hi@all!!!

Which version of Miles Davis "Kind of blue" is the best one on CD???

Weird... Just put my Sony Japanese import version on my player before I logged onto the forum. Don't know if it is the best, but it sounds good to me. Not sure if it is at the correct pitch though.....

Probably the Columbia remastered version(CK64935) which has the correct pitch, some extra tracks and was remastered on an all tube 3 track.
Much more body to the sound than my earlier version, albeit with a bit more background hiss.

I agree with Trilobyte. That's probably the best you'll find on CD.
Though, it doesn't come close to vinyl.(I had to throw that in, sorry)

The best one on CD is the Japanese First Pressing IMHO, 35DP-62. However, you might have to mortgage your house. Winker

How odd - I picked this up some time ago from FOPP and hadn't paid much attention. Just recently (a couple of days ago) I put it on and couldn't stop playing it - certainly sounded like even better music than my recollection of it on LP.

None.

Only the original Columbia 6-eye counts.

I have a Japanese Hybrid SACD which I think sounds really nice.

That's interesting. I have the Columbia "Collector's Edition", a 24 carat gold disc, number CK64403. It doesn't include the alternative take of Flamenco Sketches and I've not been able to compare the two. Has anyone compared these two? Should I get the current Columbia version? (I know it's only about £3 from HMV or Amazon, but it means yet another CD.) All that said, I played my vinyl copy the other day and that was significantly beter - more involving.

Regards,
CB

Nobody rate the 50th anniversary edition then?

Hey all, new to the forum. Was searching for info about the 35DP-62 1st JP pressing, and found this thread. I reside in Japan and recently have acquired two of these used. Neither are in mint condition, but certainly acceptable for being 26 year old CD's.

Any info as to how much used copies have sold for in the past? Just curious, I plan to store the better copy, and enjoy the other (regardless of the speed issues).
And yes this 1st pressing does indeed sound great!

Cheers,
Steve

My quest ended with the multi channel SACD - unfortunately it SACD only (single layer)

Depending on condition you should be able to get around US$150 for it. Less if the disc is only VG and the artwork damaged or not complete, more if EXC all around and even more if you still have the OBI for it as well.

A great sounding disc ... cheers Oliver

Great,
Thanks so much for the insight Oliver. Yeah I'd say one is VG, the other one excellent. Neither have OBI's. I'd like to find some more copies and stock up! It's surprising how many other used 1st press CD's can still be found for less than the original retail price here in Japan.

Steve
