US Gran Executed For Plotting Murders

I think it is astonishing how the US regards so many muslim countries as being barbaric and backwards and yet it is still has a death penalty.

Not saying US has it right - death penalty & its extreme long sentences etc. - but public stoning, beheading, amputations & flogging are a real issue if the collective standards of the western world are used as the benchmark.

But it also raises the same concerns about the nations about to replace USA as world leaders in world trade & influence.
How many executions does China still carry out that we never hear about ??

I read China executes approx 10,000 on average each year. This is an astonishing number even allowing for their vast population.

"No one knows how many people are executed in China each year. That number is a state secret. However, Amnesty International estimates that at least 1,770 people were executed last year and 3,900 were sentenced to death — more than in the whole of the rest of the world put together. Chinese legal experts say that the actual number may be far higher."

I copied the above from an article in The Times from about 4 years ago following a 30 second search on Google.

Regardless of whether China executes 1,000 pa or 10,000 pa its an appalling situation.

Cheers

Don

People get executed in the US all the time, why single out this case for barbarism? Being a woman or a grandparent does not excuse murder.
