Snaxo newbie

Posted by: Barratt on 15 January 2002

I have just purchased a second had Snaxo 3-6 to replace the Linn outboard passive Isobarik x-overs. I have a 2 Hi-cap powered 82 and I am going to place the Snaxo in line to feed 6-135's.

Question 1: Do I need a third Hicap to power the Snaxo or does it receive signal AND power from the existing 2-hicap/82 combo?

Question 2: The previous owner states the Snaxo has not been adjusted from factory settings. In most cases is this factory setting "best" for the Isobariks and thus myself?

roll eyes Looking for answers soon as I have an active bid for a Hicap

You'll need another hicap, its powered separately...

Third HiCap will be required. Short term, you could nick one of the 82 ones, I guess!

Vimal is quite correct, the SNAXO is available in several slightly different versions (for Isobariks, NBLs, DBLs, Neat Ultimatums, etc, etc). Presuming it is actually an Isobarik SNAXO then the flat settings should be fine. Probably a very similar balance to the passive crossover you were using.

Call NANA (if sourced from the USA), or Naim UK, and quote the serial number. They can tell from their records how it's configured. Contact details on the websites.

If you open it up, you should see small markers drawn on the adjustment pots to show the factory default settings (which are set by measurement, so could be different for two different XO's, or even different for the two channels).

If you do ultimately find you want to adjust the levels you will need to make very small changes to the pots.

cheers, Martin

Martin Payne, thankyou for the information. BTW I live several hundred miles from a "local" Naim dealer hence I do most of my shopping for Naim on Ebay. I have dealt with Naim dealers and NANA in the past and must state that they are a fine lot and I will use their services again.
Now to the subject point. Two of the 135's are in use. Four have been waiting for three months for the Snaxo 3-6/Hicap. I was fortunate to find 6-135's at one time on ebay but was unable to find a secondhand Snaxo 3-6 until last week.
