Just read this sad news on one of the other forums:
Joe Zawinul Dies
Apparently, Richard Cook, editor of the excellent Penguin Guide to Jazz has also died today.

Sad news. On both counts.
I shall have to put In a Silent Way on later. There was a couple of minutes on this on the Six O'clock news on R4.
regards, Tam

No point in being maudlin. Tam is right, put on the music, as it is captured and preserved forever in a way that the body never can be.

I had the privilege of hearing him with Cannonball Adderley in the Grant Park, Chicago in the 60’s and with Miles in the early 70’s. His contribution to music was enormous and sometimes underappreciated. He will be missed. I agree, put on his recordings and enjoy!

He was one of those artists that turned me on to jazz. May he RIP.

Very influential figure in my musical appreciation. Sad news indeed.

......Jeez ...I didn't know this (haven't checked this forum for a few days) ....I've been a big fan of Weather Report since the early 70's and have every album they ever did .....not to mention some of Joe's solo stuff and his Miles period.
A true loss to jazz and "world music" I guess ...and a true pioneer of the synth.
Mysterious Traveller has always been one of my all time favourite albums. - RIP Joe
