this is what occupies my free time when i'm not listening to music.

i'm not much for Harley's but if you want to talk KTMs, BMWs, Moto Guzis, Nortons, MV Agusta, I'm all ears.

Chaps

I run a 1959 BSA B31 which is a 350cc single.

It is a true old thumper, ultra reliable and does 90 mpg.

It can cruise all day at 45/50 mph which I find the best speed for enjoying the countryside.

Another thing, it is only half the size of a modern Harley and it is so easy to control.

I will probably keep it till the day I drop.

Regards

Cool! Smile

Which part of the UK are you in? Favourite haunts for me are Matlock Bath, Devil's Bridge (Kirby Lonsdale) and Squires Cafe (Nr Selby).

Cheers

Steve

I use it mainly to either pop into town or for a cruise around the cotwolds.

I am driving a Ducati ST2. Well actualy the bike belongs to my girlfriend but she does not use it that much.

For myself I am saving up for a BMW R1100S. Love the 2 cilinder drive but the running costs of a Ducati are "challenging".

i'm having serious moto lust for this right now.

i love the ducatis.

Actually my favorite Ducati is a 999. If only the running costs would be a little more foregiving...

the stacked headlights of the 999 always bugged me.

the 1098 is more to my visual liking, kind of a throw back to the 916.

One of the design items of this bike that started to grow on me after a while. After the 916 many bikes had headlights like the 916. It took a while but I started to get to grips with the styling of the 999 series after a couple of years. Lean, narrow and an identity of it's own. And I am going to buy a BMW....... What am I doing?
About the 1098; the sound of the engine of is making my skin crawl. With the ST2 "down changing" gears and letting it go makes such a good sound as well!!

I'm not really a sports bike lover I'm an off roader/supermotard guy but is this a challenge to Ducati's crown I love it though I love everything about KTM.

The KTM is a cool bike indeed. Very lean.

i've ridden a lot of BMW R bikes over the years and still have a 77 100S. and based on what you've written i don't see you getting on with the 1100S. the torque is great but not the kind of excitement you're accustomed to on a ducati.

i'm primarily an enduro rider these days but my sport bike itch is getting more pronounced. i'll probably go japanese to get back into it but i can see a 1098 in my future.

I can't see myself going japanese. I am a twin man but the speedier type of guy I guess. And I know BMW does not offer the same thrills as a Duc, I can ride it longer without the costs as a Duc...
But, I am going to drive a R1100s first. See what it does.
And remember, I am only used to driving a Ducati St2 (the Sport Touring one).

make sure you try the K1200S, much more excitement and still a beemer.

fwiw, my friends here (Brit expats btw) are both serious track day guys and both consider the new Ninja (they both have one) to be one of the best sport bikes ever built. cost of ownership is not a concern for either and they have owned Ducs in the past. just sayin.

The new Triumph Thunderbird is getting rave reviews. Evidently it has got Harley Davidson worried.
