I landed it on Tuesday, I wanted to give it a spin or two before commenting. Tuesday was a massive Eels spurge for me, I bought this, and ordered the internet only live album plus the two E solos, should be dropping through my letterbox soon. Check out www.eelstheband.com for details.

Souljacking is indeed very good, though it is not an obvious follow on to Daises of the galaxy. It far more "rock" in places, with new guitarist John Parrish's contribution being very obvious. Still got all the quirks that make the eels so appealing though. This album also contains the definitive lyric line that 40 years or so of rock music has so far failed to come up with - "the world is shit, but baby you're it", fantastic stuff.

UK buyers, make sure you land the CD copy with the silver special edition sticker, as despite no mention on the cover it includes an additional CD single containing a further four tracks, and 'I write the B sides' from that is IMHO one of the best.

Intersted to hear about the new album. Despite the general positive critical reception to Daisies I have always found it the least interesting and enjoy its predecessors more. They had more bite (especially the first album whose name excapes me now) and were a little less trite.
I also found Daisies rather too similar in mood and texture from track to track.

nope-it was the last album before souljacker. It came out last year ( there were 2 versions-one with Mr E's beautiful Blues and mother-f**ker,another 'clean version' with the track alternate version,'monster-trucker' instead!)
