Music or the sound thereof?

Muchachos

I've long noted that, when somebody seeks advice about an upgrade, there is often a response saying "buy more music", giving the view that this is the most important item.

I'm not so sure about this.

I have a reasonably decent Naim set up, but listen to a comparatively narrow range of artists and even albums. I do buy new stuff ( when employed, = bummer ) but in all honesty I don't actually listen to music very much. This is largely due to the hostile reception I get at home when listening.

So, I want to maximise the pleasure I get when I *do* listen, whch is right for me.

Am I alone in this?

oh, and happy new year to y'all.

Your not on your own . Very similar for me but for different reasons

I have always had a few favourite artists from my main interests which are folk/rock , folk , classical piano , and Hendrix/Doors/Joplin etc.
I have had diversions [and still do] into other types of music and other artists in my preferd areas. But if they dont do anything for me i dont see the point wasting time listening to them. Its a case of knowing what you like.

I have enough cds in my selected groups to keep me happy and new discs do get released from my favourite artists for me to purchase [the ones that are still alive anyway. A lot of them are no longer withg us !]

When i listen to my system i regard it in the same light as going to live concert so it has to have the same effect on me as a concert , or near enough.

I have found as my system has improved it has taken me closer to that.

Any background /work listening is done by radio .

My cd collection is quality not quantity.

Michael.

Not dissimilar to my situation but at least in your case you have *lots* of copies of some of your favourite albums..! Winker

Guilty!

Stopped moving on the A3 at around 1800, moved a bit a 0520 next morning, finally home at 13.30. Glad to say I had a lot of warm kit in the car, and some Jaffa cakes etc.

Nice to be home, time for some nice red wine.

Phew! I was watching it all unfold on the news. I am sure it must have been a tremendous relief to get home.

I was south of Longmoor Barracks, near Petersfield.

Julain - quite right, but I do think there is a judgemental issue when people say "get more music" as if doing anything else is just stupid.

I want the best sound I can afford when I do listen to music, so I consider upgrades.

I don't buy nearly as much stuff now I've started learning to play, and especially now we've done a few gigs.

I spend more time learning/programming etc, but I do miss the riders evenings from a few years back - they were a good source of new music...
