How can I change my user name on groupee?
Posted on: 05 April 2005 by Adam Meredith
You do not have the power. However, as you appear to be using a real name - e-mail me and I will make you unreal.

Yes, I made that mistake when I signed on and now want some privacy.
I will email you tomorrow.

Such power cannot be learned. Not from a Jedi anyway.

If you let him strike you out, he will become more powerful than you could possibly imagine. And close down your amusingly antagonistic papal threads.

Adam, I'm half real but which half is the conundrum.
I'll let you toss the coin.

There's nothing wrong with being real.
What exactly do you wish to hide and why?

Sorry to say I am writhing (sic) at home with a cheek like a lopsided hamster and half my brain observing, aghast, as the other half is rendered mush by an infected tooth. The consequence of 15 years' dental delinquency and the slowness of penicillin. What happened to codeine over the counter?
I will engineer your transformation upon return.

Hint...clindamycin is far more effective in rapidly dealing with a dental abscess than penicillin-which in many instances does nothing apart from give false hope. I know from personal experience from when even 6 grams a day (injected IV-the benefits of being a physician) of ampicillin did nothing, but 2 doses of clindamycin provided almost instant cure.

Jon,
This is where they all live. The best way to entice them to murder you, is play loud music at 3am.
On the other hand, detached property owners suddenly develope a hatred for tall Leylandii blocking their light. They will go to all lengths and costs to prove that their living room light levels have been reduced by 3 f-stops.
I bet mansion owners don't have any problems.

Last dosing was Metronidazole - which seems more specific, if seriously incompatible with alcohol.
At present the main problem is the dentist's inability to prescribe an adequate painkiller. Last time this happened I was prescribed Dicloflex and, minutes later, all was painless. This time - over the counter rubbish and I may just go mad before the antibiotics do anything.
This tooth is really getting medieval on my arse - what happened to the modern world?

I sympathise with you. I know what you're going through. I've had a toothache so bad I was hitting my head against a hard wall because it felt slightly better when I stopped. A few years ago I read in the newspaper of the helicopter rescue of a chap on a fishing boat who had a toothache so acute he was lapsing in and out of consciousness. I can grasp the concept of a toothache that bad.
Hope it gets better soon.

The problem with a nerve root surrounded by pus is that the sensory nerves (i.e. transmitting pain) are firing at full throttle. Codeine is barely effective and hydrocodone or propoxyphene barely better. True analgesic relief STARTS at morphine when you have severe dental pain.
Metronidazole(Flagyl)has a much better potency against anaerobes as compared to penicillins. The problem is as you noted an absolute intolerance to alcohol, which is really one of the drugs that potentiate the analgesia of whatever other painkillers you may be on. Clindamycin has no such contraindications, although it may cause fatal diarrhoea.
Small wonder why people sometimes just have the offending tooth plucked out of its socket.
There was one time when I was in such severe pain, that I loaded up a syringe with Marcaine and tried to inject it into the nerve root. Most of it slobbered over my tongue and caused me to have slurred speech as my tongue became immediately paralyzed. Local anaesthetics do not transmit well across a barrier of pus, and when they do are quickly utilized/metabolized by the pus.
Moral....clindamycin, alcohol and oxycodone are a great tri-pronged remedy.

Thanks for the sympathy and advice - I am not registered with a doctor yet and am about to stagger round Salisbury until someone lets me have something to stop this pain. As I haven't slept for three days I suspect my patience may be a little frayed and I hope no one has to die.

I will be on my best behaviour then Adam, hope the tooth ache gets better soon. I have suffered from it and you have my sympathies.
Thanks for the new Naim

In a better world teeth would emit a small warning tone (which could be "snoozed") when there were problems.
It is difficult to see what is gained by rendering the sufferer completely stupid, sleepless, unable to eat, hearing voices, barking at passing cars, dreaming of oblivion - oh, perspective leaves the room very quickly when the source of pain sits so close to the brain.

I always thought that doctors must self medicate from time to time...
Hands up who else has loaded up their own syringe.

Adam
You have my sympathy, tooth pain is the worst.
Surely you don't need tp be registered with a Doctor to get some relief? Last time I had this (although in London) I found the emergency Dental Clinic - which was part of a hospital. They had evening opening (on a Saturday) and sorted it out on the spot, for free, in exchange for a three hour wait (which is far more tolerable if you know the pain will end).
Meanwhile, nature's sympton alleviator is oil of cloves. This tastes absolutely disgusting but has a quite remarkable anaesthetic effect and can be purchased over the counter in the chemist.
Hope you get it sorted.
