Need advice on printing companies

Posted by: Andrew Randle on 22 July 2006

Hi all,

Hopefully I can find some help from some of our photography fans here.

I'm looking to have some regular printing done, poster sized. Main criteria are good price, great quality, will accept large bitmap files, either a good range of sizes available or can print to a specified size, preferrably London located or can do Internet uploads/ordering.

Already tried www.photobox.com, but they only seem to do jpeg format and not bitmaps Frown

I had great difficulty in writing this email with all my fingers crossed Winker

Hi Andrew
I'm not sure if they meet your absolute requirements but look at www.lab35.com, I've used them for years and their print quality is outstanding - assuming your original source is good!

Hi Steve!

Massive thanks! I noticed they accept .tif files, which seem to replicate the quality of bitmaps. The original source quality should be good, 9000x6000 pixels at 300dpi Cool

Great prices too - they're better than Photobox Big Grin

Many thanks,

Andrew

And at the end of the day the quality is fantastic - they are an old fashioned processing and finishing house. Used to have another co. for pro's but I think it has all merged now. Your resolution should be fine. Tiff files seem to be slightly prone to corruption, I use them as they can hold four colour seperation info. for brochure printing.
Do they accept RAW files? If so that might be the "best" one to supply (assuming your camera can produce them etc etc).
