Is my LP12 defectively?

Hi!
The rotating plate of my LP12 moves from side to side almost 1mm; I looked at the inner plate: it doesen't semm to sway, but between the inner and the outer plate there is a scope so I can slide the outer plate back and forth a little bit. I tried to find a position to minimize that side-to-side-moving, it's better now but still easily visible...
I don't know if this is important nor if a brandnew LP12's plate is supposed to move from side to side or not.
Thanks for any hints!

Ok, I have latest Koetsu Rosewood on LP12/Aro/Prefix K/Hicap. Beautiful sound and very good match. The only 2 trivial things I did:
1. Koetsu loves 100 ohm loading so I changed loading resistor in Prefix
2. Azimuth weight is a little too heavy so I changed it to blob of Bluetack.

Perhaps you should post some photos to Jun? Do you just live with the geometry?

It's also possible to have a custom drilled arm board for the Aro/Koetsu. Isn't it...?

Another approach is not to obsess about tonearm geometry and just listen. :-) And remember, ther's probably +/- 1 mm of play in the way the arm is attached to the board.

If you read the LP12 setup manual you'll see that Linn go to some lengths to allow you to get the geometry right. There's a tool to place the pillar of a Linn format arm correctly etc. ISTM that if you can, you should. It's lower distortion for free.
(I don't like distortion, I do like my LP12...)

Unfortunately the "Kinky" (alignment tool Paul mentioned) is discontinued. I wonder if Linn still supplies the strobe disk/strobe light? The disk has an alignment gauge specifically for Linn Arms/cartridges.
