Osvaldo Golijov

Here is a real wild card. The NPR Radio 'Music Of the Decade' podcast has exposed me to this composer, and specifically his St Mark's Passion. Golijov is apparently an Argentine Jew, his Passion is a startlingly eclectic mix of latin and more traditional sounds, with the emphasis on the unusual. By turns baffling, intriguing and occasionally startlingly beautiful.

I'm tempted by some more of his work. Anyone else heard this extraordinary CD, or any of his other output?

I'm particularly intrested in the Jewish elements of his work (my wife is Jewish).

I've seen 2 of his pieces performed at festivals. They are interesting, the first one I heard was about Garcia Lorca, poet who died in Franco's Spain. Dawn Upshaw sang the title roll since it was about her memories of him.

2 years later another piece I don't remember the name of. He definitely has an interesting style and mix of cultures.
