Olive CD Players

Posted by: Jack911 on 06 January 2004

I need a CD player to feed a 102/180. I can't afford a CDX yet so my choice is limited to either a CDI, CD2 or CD3.5. Does anyone have any experience with comparisons between these three?

Also, given all the good things being said about the CDi, it's getting increasingly difficult to ignore it as an option. If only it came in olive..

I thought the CDI WAS part of the olive range - it's certainly not chrome bumper or the new style...???

I got a 1996 CD2 (with brand new mechanism) for my second system (92/90/Royd RR1s) about 9 months ago. I originally demoed a 1992 CDi but the mechanism on that was intermittent (it skipped on many discs) which was rectified by the dealer, but I was still a bit nervous of spending £700, so got the cd2 for £800.

Having heard the CDi for a few weeks, with the CD2 I missed the PRAT thing which the CD2 did not do as well. Through the main system though (52/500/SBL), the CD2 was very close to the CDS2/XPS lacking mainly fine detail and delicacy of delivery.

My advice would be to go for the CDi only if the nextel is in good condition and you love the PRAT thing, otherwise the CD2 is the best bet for durability

mmmmmmmmm (Homer Simpson) chrome bumpered CDI!
At least it would match the rest of my boxes.

CDI is definitely olive but I don't give a stuff as it sounds awesome!
