Rolling Stones - Forty Licks

Posted by: Ian P on 25 September 2002

Anyone know anything about the soon to be released "Forty Licks" best of album ? It appears to be available in a bog standard edition for £12.99 or in a limited edition at £15.99. I was wondering if the only difference is packaging. On amazon.co.uk the track listings appear to be the same.

Or am I committing a heinous crime buying a "best of" ~;-)

The Stones are IMHO worth picking up collections, as some of the very early stuff and the later albums aren't especially crammed with greats in the way of, say, Exile on Main Street or Let it Bleed.

Was listening to quite an interesting thing on the remastering process on the Stones back catalogue last night, think on R3 though it may have been 4. Sounds like they've been doing a good job.
(sorry, don't know about the differences between the editions)

Pete.

Only if the most of your collection are compilations (Best of's, Now That's What I call Music 1 .. 157, 24 Axe heroes, etc.)

I think about 1 to 2% of my collection consists of "best ofs", mainly of bands who don't appeal enough to buy the albums but have released a few good singles (e.g. The Police)

My wife's collection consists almost entirely of compilations. She rarely listens to music but some times puts on the radio in the background.

from A&B in Canada.

$30.49 Canadian dollars.

About thirteen quid.

The new single, 'Don't Stop' is on it and is rather good.

American/Canadian produced discs always sound better to me, anyway.
