Help Required - Late 30s & 40s Music

Hi folks,

I'm looking for some help.

Just to set the scene - my gran had a major stroke a couple of years ago and was left with permanent language difficulties. These consist of v.v.v.very limited vocab to the point that she may say yes when she means no and vice versa etc, some understanding of what is being said but again we have found that when we think she understands we later find out that she hasn't. To cut a long story short I can't ask her the question so I'm coming to you for help.

I want to buy her some CDs for her Christmas and my Mum says that she seems to enjoy listening to old classics from when she would have been a young woman, around the late 30s and into the 40s. So what I guess I'm asking is can any of you recommend any good albums etc of this period with classic song but not with too much reference to WW2.

Any help appreciated.

Thanks,

A

Only one that I own and can think of is Billie Holiday, but to be honest I'm not sure if this is the right era.....there are bound to be others that know/own more though....

Sorry to hear about your Gran Red.

Good luck with your search!

Wow! Eek

Thanks for your comments re my gran Arf

Thanks Rotf too, what a lot of info. That's a great help and I'll need to go see if amazon has any clips to listen to. It wasn't really jazz I was looking for so this hits the spot.

Thanks again!
