Service for Nat 02 tuner and aerial advice

Posted by: Boz on 17 March 2003

I have just aquired a 10 year old Nat 02 tuner and before I add it into my system would it be worth sending to Naim for general check over or should I leave well alone ?

I'm not sure what can go wrong with these things as they seem very basic in construction.

Have any forum users got any aerial advice for an '02 i I have a 4 prong roof mounted FM terminal I was using with my Techics tuner would that be OK to start with ? I live in Kingston so any aerial dealers anyone knows ?

Congratulations on the 02 its mine, you wont be disappointed. I've repsonded to the end of auction notice but not Ebayed before so let me know if I've broken any protocol

It's been used with a Ron Smith circular 4 which can be added to to make it a Galaxie 14/17 which cost c. £50 + cables + mast + fitting. I had previously used a cheapo roof halo and it sounded fine. It really depends on reception where you are.

The 02 is working fine, but I too am umming and arring over getting the NAT01 that replaces it serviced (Naim quote £130 and say its the power supply that benefits) as it does not sound that much better than the 02.

Nice to hear its going to a good home though, look forward to hearing from you

The 4-element aerial should be fine in Kingston providing it's aligned properly and you dont have any major obstructions (like the hill) or tall buildings directly between you and the transmitter at Wrotham or Crystal Palace. Both transmitters are pretty much on the same line from this part of SW.London so you should be able to pick up from both equally well. If you can't pick up a clean stereo signal you might want to get the aerial alignment checked. I can't imagine there's a great deal of point in having the NAT-02 serviced unless it actually has problems.

The best advice to avoid problems etc is to just give Ron Smith a ring on 01582 736561 he will advise you which would be the best rig for your requirements I had one of his Orion 9's
recomended by one of our local aerial instalers
great reception but I had to remove it due to the Humming driving every body in the area mad
and the wind down here in sunny Brighton nearly taking the aerial and chimney off. Ron Smith will even instal the installation for you at a resonable cost and then any problems of suitability later on would be down to him.
