SBL Pads

Hi
Could anybody offer suggestions about the best way to fix the aluminium pads to the SBL with the staples. I have followed the Naim instructions, but am having trouble attaching the staples neatly (they keep bending).

Cheers

Ade,

I didn't bother using the staples at all, I just relied on the adhesive backing. I think this is fine as long as you don't intend dismantling and re-assembling the speakers on a frequent basis eg for dealers who need to move them around for home-dems and so on.

Once everything is in place, I think the weight of the mid-box should keep those pads from moving !

as they said back in the 80's.

I intend buying a staple gun for precisely this job, before I next rebuild my SBL's. They're cheap enough at your local hardware store - under £20, and often under a tenner. If this seems extreme, as a percentage cost of owning new SBL's it's a pittance.

Don't ask me if it makes much of a difference, though!

Just following the "use the right tool for the job" principle. smile

Rico - let them eat Kans.

Like Allan, I never bother - just use the backing. I've regasketted (?) several times over the last 7 years with no problems whatsoever.

I've re-assembled them today without staples, and they sounded lovely at low volume tonight when I returned from work (they're now on the end of the ex-display 250 I brought).
Also, when I took them apart, the wool inside was much further below the top plate than it should have been (obviously not checked when they were assembled previously), and I was wondering what effect that might have had. How critical is the 75-100mm space to sound quality, as I won't be able to listen to them again until tomorrow night to find out?

Cheers
