Great Recordings....

What are some albums where the recording is exceptionally good?

I'm not looking for albums where the songs are spectacular, but rather the way the music and the instruments sound on the album. It can be any genre of music, from classical to jazz, from pop to metal.

Sgt. Peppers by the Beatles, in fact anything late Beatles but I'm still amazed by what they did in the studio with SP. I have a new pressing and it's very clear and oh so colorful.

Wolf,
Sgt Pepper is one of the most compressed sounding recordings of all time. All the Beatles' work, before it and after it, 'sounds' better. Of course it's a wonderful and timeless album.

tam92 - try the first Pentangle album ('Pentangle') recorded 1968 I think - amazing clarity on vinyl. Haven't heard the remastered CD. British Jazz-folk is the genre.

Any of the naim label recordings, but especially the ones done by Ken Christianson. Patrick Noland's "Gathering Light" is both gloriously recorded and gloriously composed and performed. Even on an old "3" system with Intro 1s it sound almost the same as a real piano...

Well, I guess now I'm obligated to mention my own Naim album recorded by Ken Christianson: Dreamhouse.

With as much humility as I can muster, I have to say that it does sound quite good. Great, even.
