LP 12 support
Posted by: Christopher on 12 June 2003
Has anybody directly compared the performance of the LP12 on a Quadraspire Ref vs Mana Reference Table? I'd really appreciate some advice... I already have a Q4, so the Quad will match aesthetically, but from what I've heard I I have the impression that Mana and LP12's go together really well.
Thanks!
Thanks!

Next time I dismantle my kit I might try this out? I have both QS Ref and Mana Ref, thus spanning both the non-ferrous metal / wood and the metal/glass stand wars base camps.
I put the LP12 on Mana Ref by the way. They seem to be made for each other.

I can only confirm this. And there's that thing about the LP12 performing at her best when sitting on it's own dedicated support.
Mana's are easy to order and they give very good value for money. Surprisingly small, this Reference Table is as well.
I'm so very happy with my Mana,s Since I've got them I have the feeling my system is finally complete. I didn't dare to state this earlier on this forum because of the Fraim lobby going on, but now I just did it...
Ah, who cares what support you are using, as long as you're happy!
BTW: I've got this new cartridge now, the Linn Adikt. It's great!
Have fun!

Thanks
I think I'll have to opt for Mana... even though it's butt-ugly!

There is no 'Have to' in this Christopher.
Trying stands is difficult at the best of times. The Mana stand does fit in with Linn's philosphy of a lightweight dedicated support but then a QS Ref with a single shelf plus the bottom one for rigidity may also do the job, though I suspect that it would be a bit on the low side!
Have you considered a Fraim? It goes well with an LP12 as well.
The basic Mana reference table without all the extra phases is not too unsightly but if you like the Mana effect you may find yourself buying more.

I did like the idea of the QS Ref stand as my CDX could then be moved from my existing Q4 to this (ie below the LP12), so both sources would benefit... but I suspect that this is less than optimal as the LP12 apparently likes to sits on it's own stand?
I do wonder how much more the CDX has to give, whether a new stand will make a big difference but having said that all the demos I did at dealers were using standard Q4 stands, including Infidelity at Kingston, and their demo stuff sounds superb.
As for Fraim, too expensive, but more importantly I find it unsightly from anything other than the front angle (would be prettier if the uprights were cylindrical)
