squeaky cd3

Posted by: djsmail1 on 07 October 2003

My cd3 plyaer (original spec) seems to squeak when playing cd's. Seems better or worse depending on the cd.

If it was a door hinge I would spray WD40 on it but suspect that spraying WD40 on the cd spindle would be a bad move. Anyone got any ideas for a quick fix?

Hi djsmail1,
it will most likely be the clamp which has worn and not the door hinge or disc platter.

The audible squeak will be be the disc "skatting between the clamp and platter.

This can be intermitant due to the verying thicknesses of discs available.

A replacement clamp can be purchased through your local dealer. The one you require is called a clamp 3.

At the risk of being 'The Harbinger Of Doom' it sounds like the transport might be on its last legs?

Is it original and never serviced?

As ever; this is where a good dealer is useful.

A new transport etc: by Naim will probably cost you £200 - £300; but they will do other 'tweaks' to lift its performance.

I have such a refurbished CD3 and it's a blinder.

Good luck.

Thanks for the advice.

A new clamp costs £12 so I'll try that first and keep my fingers crossed.
