XBox 360 Kinect

Just got my Kinect this morning. Was going to set it up on top of the TV, but it seems you need a bracket/mount for this. Lo and behold ... nobody in the UK seems to have a TV mount for it yet! Plenty on US sites. (sigh)

Well, tried to get our 2 and half year old granddaughter to use the Kinect. Ever tried to explain to such a small person how to make the calibration "moves"? Eventually I knelt/crouched and pretended to be her while calibrating it, then started the game with me on on my knees and her in front of me, then swiftly exited myself. She loved it and quickly got the hang of the river rafting game, but it kept pausing when she moved to far forward etc. Have to wait till she's a bit older, I suppose ... Winker

How's the latency? BBC Click fair slaughtered it on that earlier today. Available on iplayer.

So far I've only tried the supplied "Adventures". Seemed OK when I or my son-in-law played, but my daughter thought it a little sluggish. The only real trouble is that sessions of more than 10 minutes or so reach my limit (angina). Still, perhaps it'll help me get a little fitter. That's where the Wii scores - I can play that sitting down. Smile

Am I the only one that thinks this has been pushed out prematurely, just to get the Christmas business? It just doesn't look ready to me

Certainly it's been issued in the UK before some of the essential accessories are available (TV mount?)

I'll admit that the real reason I got one was so that the small grandkids could join in and play computer games. I still think the Wii type control is actually better for us unfit couch potatoes.

It looks pants to me. Controlling games requires precision. The Wii controller is bad enough, but this is just random.

The videos of maniacally grinning and giggling "families" contorting themselves in a ludicrous fashion are perhaps the worst marketing efforts I have ever seen.

If you're like me, with ageing reflexes, FPS games etc with standard controllers are actually very difficult. e.g Resident Evil 4 : very hard on PS2, much less so using Wii. On the other hand, my younger son-in-law prefers to play that type of game using a PC keyboard - NBG in my hands! C'est la vie.

Never actually saw any of those advertising videos, BTW, and can't be bothered to go and hunt them down.
