Therapy
When worse comes to worse, I've found that remembering Gary Numan's "Cars" is very effective in obliterating any other song that may be hideously stuck in my head.
Cheers

For me it's U2's 'Lemon' - I just find it has such a strong and irresistible melody, plus I'm not embarrassed to be caught humming it in public....
Whatever works, I guess.

While hiking on the Appalachian Trail in 1979, I was tormented by Donna Summer's "Bad Girls".This horror went on for days. I tried several therapies encluding numerous 16 ounce cans of Narragansett Beer (shudder)and intensive herbal inhalation therapy. I don't remember what finally pushed it out...probably "Afternoon Delight"

What is it with the great outdoors? No external source of music perhaps.
I spent six days solo-climbing in Yosemite a few years ago and was cursed with 'Seasons in the Sun' running through my head the whole time. Good to now know that it's Stereophile approved. Of course I like to think I was humming Krystal/Shabba Ranks 'Half my Age'(same tune)rather than Terry Jacks.

Richard,
It was Black Lace - I really shouldn't own up to this.

Not worthless at all...
Both the best speakers and best music came forth from all-Naim systems in the most recent recommended components issue. Of course, Stereophile made no mention of these components when it came to recommendations (except for the lowly CD5).
Cheers,
Steven

The mention of Narragansett beer brings back nasty memories, far nastier than any ear worm.
David,
I do not understand how you got Narragansett beer. Are you from Southern New England? If not, you are worthy of moe sympathy than my fellow (former) residents of S. New England.
Growing up in Rhode Island, with my first apartment - last year in college - just across the river from big N's brewery, I imbibed many Giant Imperial Quarts of Narragansett.
A worse beer has never been brewed commercially. Southern New England has many pleasures; I hope the 'gansett didn't turn you off the area.
Now let us have a moment of silence in sympathy for those who have drunk 'Gansett 'beer'.
Regards.
Phil

In 1983-84, I worked with an evil bastard who loved to travel on buses around Bristol humming some terrible tune just loud enough to infect people sitting near him. He used to call it "earworming" way back then.
And right now, I've got I Can't Stand The Rain by Ann Peebles doing the nonstop rounds of the Bhoyo bonce.

Isn't that stuff about 4 bucks a case? I had a college chum who claimed to prefer it to all other beers. What a sick monkey!
Phil
I'm from Montana. I think that we started seeing the Gansett..uhh...fluid in Mass. I think that you could get a sixer of 16 oz "pounders" for $2 or less. We also got this stuff called Red White and Blue. I believe that it is/was a Pabst product (more like by-product) and was also really cheap. I didn't hold the beer against the region. I had a lovely time and being 19 helped me weather the brew!
Imperial Quarts huh? Isn't attempted suicide outlawed in that part of the country?
