Adding AV receiver - bad idea?

Posted by: Topof on 24 February 2003

Hi folks,
I've got a CD5, Nait5 sistem and I want to add some surround sound.
Ideally I'd like to pre-out the receiver (Yamaha 620) to the Nait5 to drive the front stereo pair and let the A/V unit drive the others.
Will adding the A/V unit cause a detrement to the existing setup ie interference.
I'd be putting the A/V unit on the bottom shelf with the placing the Nait next up and then the CD5 on the top shelf.

Any thoughts?

Cheers

The 620 is old technology. You probably want the 630. This gives you the pre outs for all speakers as well as stand alone capability if you later prefer to work that way.

I have a 630 running through an 82/250 into my main speakers (front pair). At the moment I have no centre front, centre back or rear speakers set up although I have them waiting to be connected. I intend either to drive my rear speakers from a Nait 3 which I have spare or else I will drive the centre speaker from the Nait - the 82/250 will still drive the main pair.

I hear no degradation, resulting from the 630 in the main system, when playing CDs through my CDX or vinyl. The Naim system is however powered from a dedicated supply and the 630 from the normal house supply. I have to say that the 630 is an impressive performer and a solidly made piece of kit for the money (less than half the price of a HiCap).

I also have a Pioneer DV-656a (multi-region) DVD player which has SACD and DVD-A. It is a very acceptable quality SACD, DVD-A and CD player.
