Naim interconnects

Posted by: HansW on 24 February 2004

Although I browse the forum from time to time and there has been a lot of discussions on naim interconnects I have become a bit lost.

I would therfore appreciate if someone can summerize the status of Naim inteconnects. specifically, I am wondering:

1. Is there a new/improved interconnect to go between my CDS and 52 (mine is grey)?

2. Is there a new/improved pre to power interconnect (in my case 52 to 135)?

3. I have replaced my grey Burndies with black ones back in 1998. Is the new S-Burndy a potential replacement for both the S-cap to 52 and the CDPS to CDS1 burndies?

4. Are the above significant upgrades?

Thanks for any help.

I believe the current "grey" interconnects are called lavender because they are grey with a slight lavender tint. However, both my interconnects for the CDS2 and the NAT01 look the same shade of grey to me.
I don't think the 52/135 or 500 interconnects have changed and are black. Apparently the number on the cable label indicates the Naim person who has made/tested the cable so doesn't indicate whether you have a new or old cable.

For those open to non-Naim interconnects, I changed to Quattro Fil between my CDP and Preamp about a year ago. It was to me a definite, worthwhile improvement. Because of the buzz I’ve read about Audience products, just a couple weeks ago, I had them build me a 1.5m DIN/DIN AU24 cable to try out.

We’ll, there are some who think the AU24 sounds better than Valhalla, at only a small fraction of the price. Because Nordost can’t even terminate the big V with DINs, and me thinks their pricing is this side of obscene, I never did try it. But I am happy to tell you that the AU24 has revealed a new CDS3 and system. I think this cable is spectacular, and while NACA5 seems surprisingly competent, I only wish my wonderful Naim 500 amp would allow trying the AU24 speaker cable as well...
