Sir Edmund Hillary RIP

Sir Edmund Hillary has died aged 88. A real icon, who could have been more suitable for the ultimate ego trip of standing atop the world that this determined but supremely modest New Zealander?
His modesty was typified by his intense reluctance to disclose wether he or Tensing had actually been first-always anxious to say they climbed it together.
Our good friends have worked with the charity he and others from the 1953 expedition established The Himalayan Trust and we visted ourselves a few years ago, walking much of the way with Sir George Lowe. It has done a great deal to promote the welfare of the Sherpas and Hillary and his companions are revered in the area. He will be much missed.
